AC Named one of the 50 Most Engaged Workplaces in N. America for Second Straight Year

http://www.newswire.ca/news-releases...631093093.html

ONTREAL, June 27, 2017 /CNW Telbec/ - Air Canada has been ranked among the 50 Most Engaged Workplaces™ in North America for the second year in a row for its commitment to employee engagement by Achievers, an employee social recognition company.

"Having an engaged workforce that delivers excellent service to our customers is a top priority for Air Canada and we are very pleased our success in creating such a culture has now been recognized for two years running. Air Canada is deeply committed to further evolving its culture, which is only possible because our 30,000 dedicated employees have responded enthusiastically to the opportunity to act as entrepreneurs, take responsibility and embrace the values that make our airline a leading global carrier. Their engagement is a key reason why Air Canada was recently rated the Best Airline in North America by the widely-respected Skytrax World Airline Awards," said Arielle Meloul-Wechsler, Senior Vice President, People and Culture, at Air Canada.

The Achievers award is the most recent recognition Air Canada has received in relation to Human Resources, corporate culture and employee engagement. Other commendations include:

One of "Canada's Top 100 Employers" and One of "Montreal's Top Employers" for 2017, both for the fourth consecutive year, by MediaCorp Canada;
One of Canada's top two "Most Attractive Employers", in April, 2017 by Randstad Canada;
One of "Canada's Best Diversity Employers" and one of Canada's "Top Employers for Canadians Over 40", both for the second consecutive year by MediaCorp Canada.
One of Canada's 10 most admired corporate cultures for 2016 by Waterstone Human Capital.
Companies selected by Achievers are evaluated on eight elements of employee engagement: communication; leadership; culture; rewards and recognition; professional and personal growth; accountability and performance; vision and values; and corporate social responsibility. The top 50 companies were selected for their work in setting the benchmark for standards in employee engagement.

Just don't take the nuts and lotion you find in between seats while cleaning, or you will be engaging somewhere else.

"Having an engaged workforce that delivers excellent service to our customers is a top priority for Air Canada " is a great sentiment, but a lot of us are waiting for this to be put into practice.

At first glance, I read the headline as "enraged".

Given AC's seemingly never-ending labour issues, I wonder if any of the unionized employees had a chance to vote on this? Or did they just poll the management team?

Didn't those never-ending issues end? The last strike was some 5 years ago and all unions are signed to long-term agreements so there could be a decade with relative union peace at AC.

What labour issues? AC has not had any major labour issues in many years. Plus, AC has all their unions now under long term contacts.

It's called paid product placement and to many people who know what these awards are, it is offensive. Achievers specializes in raising a company's profile and is an "employee recognition and rewards program".

I describe this a pay to play PR effort. To bring attention to companies, a PR entity gives them an award. Ever seen the Business Choice, or Consumers Preferred awards? You pay and you can get an award, even if really not merited. It's like the school field days. Even the fat kid who can't run gets a ribbon and a juice box.

This PR release has zero credibility with me. Air Canada shouldn't degrade its brand with this sort of thing.
