Consistent with the 20% stake in IAG. It's likely Qatar Holding (the sovereign wealth fund) money anyway, just routed through QR to give them influence

Discount Dougie will flush qAAtar airlines down the drain just as he has done with AA.

I mean, I get that you're joking, but this is Qatar wanting to buy a minority share of AA, not AA buying a piece of QR.

Interesting, Qatar also has 10% of LATAM. I guess they want a piece of most of the alliance members?

Let me know when QR, or anything else, gets to 51%. EXP with zero YTD purchased miles on AA. You're all flying US Air, not AA.

Berkshire Hathaway owns 4.24% of AAL

AAL is a public company, I consider investor interest as a positive sign, would be different if Parker was selling off equity to keep the ship afloat.

Berkshire Hathaway owns 10% of AA

...American Airlines policy prevents anyone from accumulating a 4.75% stake or more without board approval, and the company’s board said it hasn’t received a request from Qatar Airways to go above that threshold. Further, foreign ownership laws limit the total percentage of foreign voting interest to 24.9%, American said.

As of March and April filings, the company had five shareholders above the 4.75% threshold including Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway Inc. which has a 10% stake....

That's from today's WSJ article concerning this issue.

Must we have this tired drivel in every thread? If you don't like AA - don't fly them. Simple as that.

Back on topic - glad to see positive investor interest in AA.

Umm, foreign entities holding a combined 25% or more of a US airline is against the law, so I think it's rather unlikely that QR alone would hold 51%.

This idea is probably floated about in the last couple of weeks on the basis of isolation of Qatar and the need to appease The Donald.

You can as well guarantee the next big fleet purchase for Qatar Airways will be Boeing
