Unauthorized person in UA cockpit during Colorado Rockies charter

Apparently, pilot(s) allowed someone to sit in pilot's seat at altitude w/ auto-pilot engaged. Why do people risk high-paying jobs by allowing something like this??? Dumb, dumb, dumb...

FAA, United investigate after video captures ‘unauthorized person’ in cockpit during flight chartered by Colorado Rockies (yahoo.com)

"Someone" was supposedly a coach.

Video is quite disturbing, more so than I'd have expected:

Are charters operated under Part 121 or 135?

I'm not sure this rule really makes us any safer. Especially on a charter. Europe doesn't have these same rules.

WOW, that's crazy. Yes stall speed increases with induced Gs. There are a lot of buttons, flight sticks and stuff in a cockpit, and accidentally hitting one could cause issues
Hopefully the PIC gets in trouble because of this. At least he had the brains to keep the FO in his seat and not invite another person up.

What's funny is that before 9/11, I was allowed in the cockpit many times while in flight. Were they doing something against the rules back then or are these rules post-9/11?

Sports charters at United are still operated pursuant to Part 121. This is indefensible, not to mention the bad PR of this coming in the middle of the FAA review.

I do not expect either pilot to be flying for United ever again.

Not only someone unauthorized in seat, but others going in and out of cockpit, distracting co-pilot.

Agree -- I would be surprised if it hasn't already happened unless there is some official process with the union that needs to be done first...
