"Upgrade not available"
Have an Avios booking in J on BA188 JFK-LHR 14 May. Manage my booking says "upgrade not available".
Is that because all 8 of the F seats are full or is BA obliquely telling me that they are holding the odd empty
seat or two for somebody with higher seniority than my lowly Gold status?
Don't sugar coat your responses - I can take it.
Is it worth a call to the Gold line?

BA188 is usually a Newark service rather than from Kennedy so the sinister forces appear to have moved your flight. But on 14 May there is just one empty seat, 2F and so they will want top dollar for that until the day or two from departure. The evils of capitalism I'm afraid to say.

Unless they switch it to dormitory style 789 the night before the flight as i was subjected to on more than a few occasions.

I have seen cash upgrade options presented (not POUG) for avios bookings when done as a Space Release (joker). Never in any other situation.
You need to manually find F reward inventory (which the MMB upgrade process cannot access) or AUP.

You'd either need a POUG available- not going to happen if there is only 1 seat left. I have had it appear on an Avios booking once before though
Otherwise you'd be looking (manually or via seatspy) for an Avios seat in F and then you're changing the booking not upgrading it. The online change booking function can't handle this scenario you need to call in
Last option is AUP at the airport
