Check In

We checked in around 2 pm. Professional service, I was thanked for my loaylty etc., was informed about the upgrade to King Superior Room (from King Deluxe), and we were handed the obligatory cookies (they were still slightly warm, and tasted very good!). After this the agent explained amenities, breakfast etc. AND informed us that we could have drinks in the bar by just mentioning our room number. I had a glass of champagne and my wife mimosa. Very nice benefit. Here's picture of the bar.

Room

Our room was on the 4th floor (out of five), facing the street. Superior room feels quite spacious, there are two (comfortable) chairs and a small table in front of the large windows.

Hotel is quite new, and fixtures still have that fresh feel, mostly. (Some parts of the wooden floor were showing quite a bit wear and tear.)

The bed was comfortable and firm. There are two electric sockets on each side of the bed plus two by the work desk, so that part is well covered. Minibar is in a cabinet that also holds e.g. water boiler and coffeemaker.

Bathroom is not very large, but I've seen smaller. Shower, no bathtub. Water pressure is fine and it was easy to set the temperature.

Service

Throughout the hotel people were very friendly and service-oriented. Reception, doormen, restaurant.. Very nice. We stayed three nights. On the first morning at the breakfast we were asked our room number (you have to sign a slip for Gold/Diamond breakfast too). On the next two mornings they remembered our room number. Very good!

Dining

As Hilton Gold we received the complimentary buffet breakfast. (There were a few a la carte options as well like poached eggs, but we didn't try them.) Breakfast buffet was really great. Selection was not superwide, but there was plenty for every taste, and quality was very high. Different kinds of ham (of course), other cold cuts, cheeses, real scrambled eggs, Spanish omelette, potatoes, different fruits and vegetables, salmon, sushi, 6-7 different breads, cereals, pastries etc. Excellent juices too, and coffee was good. Also, cava if you are inclined. Unfortunately I had to work, so cava for me in the morning, but I am sure it would be very nice at weekend...

Location

Location is hard to beat. Just a few minutes' walk from Prado, Reina Sofia, Thyssen-Bornemisza etc. The hotel is on a sidestreet, but if your windows are facing the street, you will hear some traffic, honking etc. Nothing too bad, but still. Plenty of restaurants and bars nearby, plus a convenience store just opposite.

Overall

For slightly less than €200 per night this was excellent value for us.
