Just completed a 3 night stay here, and can't say enough good things about this property!

Upgraded to a deluxe suite with welcome bottle of sparkling wine, strawberries, chocolate and nut brittle (ambassador may have helped here).  Due to flight delay out of JFK, we were rerouted while our bags went on the original route.  Needless to say, they arrived a day after we did.  Staff brought up 2 dress shirts for my partner, and two golf shirts each for us with the hotel logo on them.

General Manager (Maria) was there to welcome us and we saw her on 3 of our 4 days there.  She was very involved, mixing with the guests.  Out of my 1000+ nights, I can only recall one manager who was proactively involved with guests (GM from LM Ankhor Wat in Siem Reap).

The Convento do Espinheiro dates back to the 1400s when it was a monastery.  Every day at 5 pm, one of the staff members conducts a 40-45 min tour of the historic portion of the hotel.  On our tour, we were invited to visit the Royal Suite as it was unoccupied.  The hotel is full of nooks and crannies where there are sofas to relax.

As well, every day at 6 pm there is a wine tasting.  3 wines plus various cheeses to sample.

The restaurant is absolutely spectacular.  Both the ambience and the food were excellent.  Chef was happy to accommodate my vegetarian requirements.

I would not hesitate to go back or recommend this hotel.  And while you are there, you must go to the Chapel of Bones in Evora, a truly amazing yet creepy experience!
