Check In

I was supposed to stay here for 2 nights with my brother but his flight from Edinburgh got cancelled.  I had booked his room on points and despite being beyond the cancellation period, they cancelled his room and had the points back in my account that night.  I was grateful and impressed at the service.

The staff were really friendly and check in was no exception.  I dont think I was upgraded at all but the hotel was pretty full.  FC4E6DCC-BBAF-412A-9A06-0B78DC7CB72D.jpe

Room

The room was a good size but I had been given a twin room for some reason - nevertheless the bed was comfy.  I had a great view out over Lake Geneve but that also meant road noise from a busy road below and there was no real soundproofing on the windows - so much so I check to see if it was open as it was pretty loud!

The bathroom was small and had nowhere to put anything - useless for women!  It was also an odd colour - I dont think it has been updated recently and looked out of place with the bedroom decor.

Service

I thought the service by staff throughout the hotel was first class - exactly what you would want from a hotel of this standard.

Dining

I ate in the Bar of Nations and had a couple of cocktails there.  It is pricey but the food and drinks were good.  My Ambassador Spire welcome voucher also covered the cocktails and that made my bar bill a little less of a nightmare!  The salad I had was tasty and came with bread - and I saw a lobster club sandwich go out and that looked good too.

There were a couple of restaurants, which is good as there is not much around the hotel to just pop out to.

Location

The hotel is easy to get to from the airport.  You can get a free voucher for the No5 bus before you leave arrivals.  That bus takes you to right outside the hotel and the stop is named Intercontinental so very easy to understand.  The hotel is a little way away from the tourist attractions other than the UN building but they give you free public transport cards which can be used on buses and the boats that cross the Lake.  The hotel map also shows the route of bus 5 so you can figure out where to get back on it to return.

Because the hotel is up on a hil, you get great views of the main part of town.

Overall

Overall I really enjoyed my stay.  The room had a couple of issues but I thought the public areas, the pool and the staff more than made up for these so I would recommend the hotel and I will be back.  Note it is not cheap - the food at the hotel is quite pricey and massages etc too.  There is not a great deal to do around the hotel unless you get on the us and go into town - but that is very easy so should not put anyone off.

I spent some time by the pool and thought is was wonderful - a little oasis after a busy day of sightseeing!
