Check In

A easy walk from the tube although I am not sure I would want to do it with luggage!  Reception is downstairs , although there is a lift. It is modern and funky and the staff were super welcoming. There is also a little coffee bar at the side of reception - although no windows down there so no natural light.

I was upgraded to a King Corner room - more on that later!

Room

I started off in room 618, a corner room with great views.  It was large (by London standards) and had a settee and a desk. Lots of plugs and USB ports all over the room.  The bathroom was bright and modern, with a walk in shower.  Unfortately I had to move from this room as we couldn't cool it down, there appeared to be something wrong with he air conditioner system and it was a crazy hot day in London. I was moved to the room next door (although I was also given a choice of a room on the 8th floor). The second room, 617 was smaller but similarly appointed.

Unfortunately in both rooms, the sink area had no counter space so no where to put all my stuff - I eventually had to put my stuff on the toilet lid when getting ready in the morning!!

The bed was comfy and the duvet and pillows were very soft. I would have slept well, however in this second room, the fridge kep making an awful noise and I kept getting woken up every few hours - I was not happy.  I didnt notice the issue with the door gap as mentioned by another poster, but there is a light in the bathroom under the sink that I couldn't switch off!

Service

It was the service that saved this hotel for me - despite my issues, the staff tried their hardest to please and solve them as they came up.  I even got a call from the manager after the event to offer some points - normally I would not have been happy and given a poor review, however I put these issues down teething problems at opening - I think I was the first to stay in both rooms and perhaps a soft opening to iron out these issues would have been better.

Location

It is about a 7 min walk from the District Line tube station, and about 30 mins from London City Airport. I went back to the airport via bus and DLR whcih actually was easier in my opinion. There are a lot of restaurants and fast food restaurant s around the hotel, and it had an 'interesting' set of folks out and about when I walked to the hotel at 2100 - but I never felt unsafe.

Overall

The hotel is new, modern, funky and has wonderful staff. Despite my stay issues, I will return to give it another go, and I want to see the upstairs bar and restaurant as I am sure it will have great views over the City of London!
