Great Stay at the Grand Hotel Suisse Majestic in Montreux

We booked a 6 night stay at the Grand Hotel Suisse Majestic as a Titanium member.

We arrived early from Zurich after landing 1 hour before scheduled and arrived at the hotel around 10:45am.  Our room was not ready but we were able to do the required check-in activities to get that out of the way and drop off our bags.

We return around 3:45pm and were able to go to our room on the 7th floor.  No upgrade was available as all suites were booked for at least one night of our stay, and I believe our room type was already the best non-suite.

The room was adequately sized and outlets were conveniently located.  The TV was small by modern standards but we weren't there to watch TV.  Temperature control was a bit difficult to fine tune as the only available controls was the setting on the radiator and a second control for fan / air conditioning.  We were fine leaving the radiator on whatever it happened to be set to and turning off the fan / air.

The bathroom was perfectly fine.  We were glad to have a tub for soaking as unfortunately tubs are becoming less common overall.  There was just enough counter space on the sink and lighting was good.

The only minor issue was that the tub drain plug never allowed the tub to drain sufficiently without pulling it out completely.  Others have complained about this in various reviews.  We did ask maintenance to take a look but ultimately it didn't make any significant difference.

In room water was replenished daily, one still and one sparkling.  The tap water tasted fine as well.

Fantastic view of Lake Geneva / Lac Leman from the balcony!  The sun shades above the rooms are centrally controlled, it does seem like they do it based on the current weather.

As a Titanium member, breakfast in the restaurant was complimentary and allowed full access to the buffet.  There was a good selection covering a full range of hot and cold items.  As expected, the bread and pastry items were fantastic.  The hot items were excellent as well and the bacon was frankly much better than expected from an American perspective.

No issues whatsoever, all staff were friendly.  Housekeeping was done daily and without any problems, the turndown service was provided every evening, and the restaruant staff were all excellent.

A very convenient location right next to the train station and near the boat pier.  This is one of the primary reasons why we chose this property.  The station has InterRegio and RegioExpress train service so it is easy to get places quickly.  There are also a few EuroCity trains a day to Italy.

There is a quirk with the property location, it is built onto a hill.  As a result, the entrance is on floor 3 on the road opposite the train station.  The lake facing side of the hotel unfortunately does not have a ground (0 floor) entrance.  So if you want to go out to the lakefront, you need to exit on floor 3 and walk down many stairs on the adjacent outdoor stairway or walk 100m or so to a public elevator.  There is an escalator for going up though.

Overall, we had a great stay!  No real problems, room was clean and well maintained, and the view and location were fantastic.
