Mostly Pictorial review of Sofitel Le Louise Brussels.

A few previous reviews on this place, which generally reflect my experience as well so some points I noticed and mostly some pictures to add for others to consider if they are looking to stay here in future.

-No email in advance as gilbertaue had, was sent the email to ‘check in’ to save time but didn’t bother as the app either crashes or doesn’t know how to deal with non UK nationals living in the UK so…

-no doorman or concierge staff outside/in main entrance, so just used the escalators to get to reception on the first floor, hoping this would be correct (and it is).

-arrived around 18:00 and there was no queue. Pleasant gentleman checked me in quite quickly and did all the necessary items (greeting/loyalty mention/benefits*/location of places) * only received drink voucher for one (two people registered as wife was going to join me this time), told: ‘we have a very nice luxury room ready for you’ (which I had booked), so I mentioned that this was the room I had booked, and if there were any upgrades? Told no, we are sold out tonight. Accepted this and went up to the room, which was okay but nothing too special considering it was over 300 Euros a night. (busy period for Brussels so not great but not too bad compared to other hotels I stayed in that same week with other chains). Anyway, in the room decided to check if they were indeed sold out or if I was being fed a line. Using the Accor app, I would have been able to book with cash (member and non member rates) 4 room types that night (one category below and a luxury room, as well as two suite types, which would have been 2 levels up from luxury or more). Indeed the Jnr. Suite type (a 1 level upgrade) was sold out but this was not what I was told. I’ll leave it up to you to decide if this was deliberate or simply a language issue/unintentional). Personally, I think it reflects the general poor level of the hotel in some aspects.

-the room was okay, the bed is a standard Sofitel bed (which is lovely and always provides a great sleep). A rather poor selection of Hermes products in the room (only 1 each of conditioner/shower gel/shampoo, no others and standard sofitel branded hand soap bar).

-Welcome gift in the room, some chocolates from the turndown service I assume along with a small bag of cookies. (which were okay). The mini bar had a few non-alcoholic items which were free besides the 3 coffee pods for the nespresso machine.

-I ate in the bar as I had a very long day before this and couldn’t be bothered to go elsewhere, which turned out to be a very nice choice and a saving grace of the hotel. The food was excellent, (pictures don’t do it justice) service was also (truly what one expects in a Sofitel). There was an event going on which had rather filled up the bar area but they still did a sterling job.Price is rather steep though so beware if you are price sensitive. I also was not able to get two alcoholic drinks advertised in their menu which should be corrected but likely won’t be (Laurent Perrier Rose Brut champagne by the glass, nor the half litre sized bottle of St. Emilion red) as the menu is a magasine rather than a standard paper type menu. I loved how the espresso was delivered, a bit quirky with the test tube volumes of milks, sugars and such…

-The room was very quiet (did not hear any hall traffic, road traffic or neighbours) so that was very good.

-I had booked breakfast, which was a buffet style in another room looking at the terrace of the hotel and was pleasant enough. Good variety of what they did have (mostly cold items) but rather poor in hot items and no willingness to bring any other hot items to the guests. (I had asked about eggs…rather unsucessfully).

-I would stay again, however, booking a standard room at a cheap rate and not expecting much in terms of hotel service. I would definitely recommend the food in the bar/restaurant and it was good for people watching as well

-Not a shining star of the Sofitel brand but still better than many other chain hotels (for the hard product) in Brussels which is notoriously expensive with small rooms and poor service in general.

-I had originally thought to book the other Sofitel in Brussels but price and location were better for me at the Louise and this is reflected in the service and valuation of le club members.

I’ll let the pictures do the rest of the talking and hope this is of use and interest to others considering staying here in future.
