Preamble

 

It has been about 2 years since my last TR on Kila .

This was my first TR in ‘ 17 “ Celebrating 25 years , Amankila “ post 362 in

Due to some schedule changes , we moved some trips around with Puri now in August and swapped with Bali in July . As annoying as it may have been juggling changes , am glad we did the switch even fortuitous some may say . 

For one , we were the inaugural guests in the new infinity pool suites launch at Kila .

For another , there was a guest chef .. !

 

To be continued .. but as the ‘ formalities ‘ are similar or should be , I will not be including them as it will have been covered in the past by others or by myself ( unless there ?? ) .

Aman airport team ; Arrival

 

As our usual , Aman has an arrangement where we are greeted just off the plane past the “ aerobridge “ and brought to the shortest immigration line . Then to baggage claim and speedily through customs where we are met by the familiar Aman airport team members .

A short walk to the Aman vehicle while passing a more chaotic scene for other arrivals . 

Though the airport is improving , compared to even a year ago .

The ride to Kila was fairly smooth with the usual harried motorists .

Light refreshments and cold towels are provided .

Welcomed by the Kila team including Ernst & Agus before Ernst bringing us to the newly minted infinity pool suite . We opted to ride the buggy up to the Kilasari level & walk down .

This suite was formerly an Ocean Suite and required some modifying of layout besides reconstruction of the extension to include the pool .

Unlike the other pools in suites which are overhead deep in the middle , these new infinity are more or less the same depth throughout .

 

Our refreshing welcome manggis / mangosteen drink & sorbet were waiting .

Guess what ?!

For those who like TOTO sanitary ware like those at AmanTokyo , have good news for you . These are being installed in phases through the property .

This suite has them .. requested the heat be turned off as did not want a repeat at Puri with scalded bums .

 

 

Dining - pleasant surprises :)

 

Besides our usual megibung dinner , again poolside in suite , our stay coincided with Kila having a guest Chef - one of Australia ’ s most esteemed chefs , Victor Liong . He was doing a pop up , presented as an unique culinary experience new - style Chinese and indeed it was . 

Pleased that we did not miss this . Kila has these events about twice a year .

Dining options under the stars at Kila could not have been better .

 

Kila ‘ s hillside bale is now on-site - the former helipad !

What a spot for sunrise breakfasts , sunset cocktails / satay evenings and dinners , etc .

Ocean view on one side with Nusa Penida on the horizon .

Many of our favourite items remain on the menus but we always request for those which are not any more either . Usually we alert Shane or another team member before arrival , just in case they are not available readily and they will ensure supplies during our stay . Of course , if it is out of season , say for a local fruit , it will not be ..

Service

 

What we have come to appreciate at Kila . 

Warm , almost excellent with newer staff getting to understand what is expected .

Pleasantly surprised to have top butler “ S “ for Amankila Suite at the restaurant and requested that he be the one taking care of us for our private dinner . Hope he does Kila proud back at the Suite !

 

Overall

 

After last year ‘ s Lombok earthquake , half the ferries have been moved from Lombok to anchor near the Bay in front of Kila - more twinkling lights in the evening .

Odds & ends

 

Part of my review disappeared so will try again here .

 

We did not go off property this time , lots of excursions to choose from & customised ones too as we have done along with others . We generally relax . While many have cycled , trekked , and we have snorkelled , we do not attempt anything “ strenuous “ in this climate .

While on site by the Beach Club & beach there are various activities .

Kila also holds various cultural and local exhibitions . During this stay , there is an ongoing art exhibition in the library for this period .

The cecak performance was during sunset on the beach .
