Nice Hotel in a great location - lacking a bit of atmosphere!
Check In
Check in was realtively quick - one set of people in front of me and only 1 person doing the check-in but all OK. Be aware that parking here costs - there are not many spaces and it cost £27 for an overnight!!
The lobby is light and airey - quite modern and looks like it has been renovated realtively recently.
Room
My room was 1215 - the only choice I got at reception was high or low floor - I asked for high and ended up in the middle somewhere! The room was quite dark and felt a little tired - but it was large and had a very comfy bed. I cant describe it but between that and the bathroom, I felt like I was in a hotel in the US not UK! The bathroom was large, with a shower over a bath and had quite nice aminities - albeit body lotion was provided insead of shower gel??!
There was no plugs next to the mirror which really annoys me when I am trying to blow dry my hair but there were plugs and USB sockets next to the bed. There was a chair and small table along with a work table too so you could do work in the room if that is why you are staying.
Service
Service at reception and in the bar was super friendly and nothing seemed to be too much trouble. I asked for some water for the room (I had missed it on first inspection!) and the gentleman ran around the hotel trying to find bottles of sparkling water - instead he could only find still but was willing to bring sprakling up to my room if I wanted it.
Dining
I didnt eat at the restaurant, the menu in the main restaurant did not seem to be to my taste. However I had a couple of drinks in the bar and the barman was super friendly. It didnt have much atmosphere as there was hardly anyone in it but it was cosy enough and I sat at a table and did some work while watching the world go by!
Location
It is right on the canal, within walking distance to multiple restaurants and bars and the sea life centre. It is a bit chaotic trying to drive to the location with a load of roadworks and new buildings but my satnav sorted me out! Parking is a problem so get there earlier if you want to park your car in the limited slots - I arrived at 3pm and got a space but noticed that about 4 they had all gone.
Overall
Overall this hotel is a nice safe bet - the rooms are comfortable and big, the bathroom is fine and the location is great. There was a bit of a lack of atmosphere around the whole place but that may just be a COVID thing. Would I stay here again? I probably wouldnt go out of my way to unless I needed to be in Birmingham for any reason but I would recommend it if you need somewhere to stay in the area,
