bhrubin visited this hotel the week before we did and already posted a stellar review so I will try not to duplicate.  Though we have visited many St. Regis hotels over the years and we frequently visit New York City, for some reason we had never stayed at the Flagship.

(We had spent happy times in their amazing King Cole Bar though :)

This was a special stay for us because I would finally reach Lifetime Platinum and we wanted to celebrate in a special hotel.

We decided to use points for this stay since St. Regis hotels have turned out to be some of our best redemptions. With 5th night free the total number of points was 130000. Our SNAs cleared on Friday morning for our Wednesday visit.

We had high expectations and the St. Regis NYC exceeded them.

Check In

After the long flight from San Diego (and the 3 hours "lost" in the time change) we did not arrive until almost 10 pm.  I was happy that our SNAs cleared since I verified that the hotel was 100% sold out that night. (I had checked the app before we boarded our flight and confirmed with SPG Platinum)

We were immediately helped at the Front Desk and check in was smooth and easy.  I was very surprised when the FD agent informed me that we had been further upgraded from the 600 square foot Astor Suite to the 800 square foot Deluxe Suite.  That was totally unexpected and very appreciated.

It was a pleasant surprise when we were informed that we could use our Platinum Breakfast for daily room service.  This is one of my favorite luxuries when traveling since we hate rushing down to the dining room. We were also pleased to discover that the hotel still delivered paper newspapers.  (Even grand old hotels like the US Grant have gone 100% digital)

Room

Room 607 turned out to be one of our favorite rooms we've ever had in New York. While 800 square foot can be a modest sized suite in some locations, in New York City it felt palatial.

We received another nice surprise when we entered the room and discovered fresh fruit, a half bottle of Vueve Clicquot, and a congratulation note on attaining LifeTime Platinum.

Soon after arrival, our butler Fatma introduced herself and confirmed our coffee and newspaper preferences.

The room layout was wonderful. On a 5 night stay comfort is even more important and the room worked wonderfully for us.  We loved having a second half bath and the furniture was incredibly comfortable.

The only thing the room really lacked was a dining table, but the rolling table room service provided was fine.

The shower was wonderful, even though it was smaller than usual. We were happy with the strong pressure and soft water  (a contrast to our hard water at home).

Service

The service at this St. Regis was extraordinary, comparable to the best luxury hotels we have visited.  We had a wonderful butler who assisted us 4 of our 5 days and she went out of her way to ensure we had a top notch experience.  Each morning she promptly brought us French Press coffee and biscotti and she made us feel welcome at all times.

On her last night she surprised us with a gift- a bottle of champagne, fruit, cheese and crackers.

Although on most of our trips we rely on the concierges, for this trip we ended up arranging all of our dining, theater and entertainment on our own. The few times I called the concierges with questions they were extremely patient and helpful.  When I emailed them theater tickets I needed printed they had them at our door in 10 minutes.

Room service was prompt and friendly and the bellman and doormen were professional and helpful as one could expect.

Dining

Since we had dinner reservations for every night of our stay, we never had a chance to dine onsite except for after theater snacks in the King Cole Bar.

We absolutely love this bar- it is one of our very favorites, and the $50 daily Food and Beverage credit gave us a great excuse to stop there nightly on our way in for a nightcap or snack.  Though we had been there many times before I think I appreciated the Maxfield Parrish "mural" even more after I spent time with it and had a chance to research some of its history.  It is a gorgeous piece of art and has a wonderful backstory. (See if you can figure out why the jesters are snickering at the King)

We really loved the fact that we could have our Platinum breakfast delivered to the room daily and could order up until noon.  When we are in New York we tend to stay up much later than we do at home and also sleep much later, so room service breakfasts really added to the leisurely pace of this trip. All five of our breakfasts were great and all were comped on our final folio.

Next time I am sure we will try the hotel restaurant.

Location

For years our go to hotel was the W Union Square because we really love that location.  On our prior visit we stayed at the Gramercy Park and like that spot as well.  Because this visit was during an unseasonal cold spell (it was much colder than our previous visit at Christmastime) we didn't walk as much as we usually do and were mostly whisking in and out of Ubers. If the weather had been warmer, the proximity to the park would have been wonderful. And it was a very convenient location for our theater nights.  The few times we ventured south- once to visit the 9/11 Memorial and once for a private boat tour, the Uber took almost 45 minutes in traffic. On Sunday evening though, without any traffic it only took 20 minutes to get to our 7:15 seating at Sushi Nakazawa in the Village.

Saint Patrick's Day was fun because we could hear (and see) the parade from our window.

Overall

They say it is the little things that make a stay and all of the little touches- efficient turn down service, a fresh rose delivered daily with breakfast, and most of all, a personable and attentive staff all contributed to our wonderful stay.

We were extremely happy with our stay at the St. Regis New York and are already planning our next visit.
