Executive room with Sofa

As you may remember from another thread, I always stay at the Sofitel downtown Montreal, but this time, for this 3 night stay, I was very very disappointed to not be able to stay there. Indeed, due to the F1 grand prix of Montreal, the Sofitel proposed totally crazy rates around 750 CAD and non-modifiable/non-cancellable (not joking). Of course, this is way over what's allowed by my company travel policy and so I had to go elsewhere. My local offices being not far from YUL, I decided to stay at the Novotel nearby the airport. Not fun...but I could hide my "sadness" ;-) with the convenience of being not too far from work. And the stay was good overall.

The hotel offers a complimentary shuttle from gate 9 of YUL. Beware, as it is not very frequent and you need to call them from the terminal (to go from the hotel to the terminal, book it the evening before). I was wrong thinking it was one of the hotel very close to the terminal. It is in fact exactly at the opposite of the terminal, on the other side of the airfield. And, as the shuttle stops en route at a Holiday Inn, it takes a good 15 min to reach the hotel (I felt like it would have taken me the same time to go to the Sofitel downtown !)

Check In

Check-in was very quick and efficient as always in North America. I booked an Executive room with king bed and Sofa. This is the higher room category, so no upgrade. I was given spontaneously the drink voucher.

Room

The room was large, not exactly the same style as a European Novotel.

Very comfy bed. Desk to work. Good wifi.

This type of rooms comes with several amenities : Nespresso machine (2 capsules/day, replenished every day), bathrobe (but surprisingly no slippers !), safety box.

I was very pleasantly surprised entering the room, finding as welcome gift/VIP treatment a tray with a cheese and fruit plate + small bottle of red wine. I have to say that it is one of the best welcome gift/VIP treatment I had in a Novotel (and many Pullman or Sofitel don't even do half of this). You can see what I mean seeing the picture below.

Bathroom was the same as in Novotel Toronto centre : quite large with a walk-in shower.

Only point for improvement is the air conditioning system which was noisy (and it was out of question to switch it off as it was very hot in Montreal when I was there).

Dining

I didn't try the restaurant. I used the drink voucher at the bar. As usual, in that kind of mi-scale hotel, you can have wine, beer and soft drinks.

Overall

Overall, a good stay and a recommendable hotel in very decent condition, with good staff. They treat Platinums rather well.

Of course I would return here only if the Sofitel is not able to decently welcome me ;-) , as it is no fun at all to be stuck in the airport area
