I stayed toward the end of October at this superb Sofitel, which was recommended by several posters of this forum and particularly @matmatlr and @escape4. Great stay with very good status recognition.
It is located on the famous Paseo de la Reforma, one of the main avenue of Mexico city. The hotel is in a tall building adjacent to the US embassy. It opened end 2019, so just before the pandemic started.
The ground floor has quite a large pick-up/drop-off area for cars and taxis, mixing different styles as you can see on the pictures. I ordered the limo pick up from the hotel which was quite pricey (around 100 USD) who had to wait for me for a very long time as not took forever to clear immigration in MEX.
From there you take a lift to the main lobby.
Check In
I was nicely welcomed as a Diamond member. I used SNU for this stay and booked a Junior suite. I was not further upgraded but they told me at checkin that I was given the nicest room in this category. I was indeed not disappointed at all. The hotel looked quite busy when I was there.
Room
The room was a corner one on 34th floor and the view was stunning as you can see on the different pictures below taken at night and during the day. At night, I was not closing the curtains, as lying on the bed, I had the feeling to be in a spaceship. Magic, really.
A long desk convenient to work. Usual amenities : bathrobe, slippers, Nespresso machine (capsules replenished every day), plenty of water bottles. Welcome letter, welcome gift were chocolate cake, a large piece of chocolate (to break with a small hammer) and a small bottle of Champagne.
Drink voucher was given at check-in.
As you can see on the welcome letter, apart the classical Diamond benefits, Diamond members enjoy 15% rebate at the Spa, 4 items for complimentary laundry,
Large bathroom with bathtub and walk-in shower with city view ;). Separate toilets.
Products were from L’Occitane.
Dining
As discussed previously in this thread, unfortunately the Club Millesime is still closed because they don’t have enough guests. They have alternate arrangements which are quite nice at the Balta restaurant on the 14th floor. This is the main restaurant of the hotel. Breaksfast is taken there and is free for Diamond & Platinum members. The cold buffet selection is great and you can order warm options from a menu. Pictures of the buffet here below :
This Balta bar/restaurant is also the temporary place for lounge. There is no specific area for lounge-eligible customers, but once you are identified as such during the happy hour time (6 to 8 pm IIRC), all drinks are free and you can order any small portion food from a special menu displayed below. You can order as much as you want and it’s freshly prepared and some of them are warm. Some were really delicious and it is served in very decent portion size. You can make you dinner with those if you want.
On the 38th floor, you have the CityZen bar/restaurant with both indoor and outdoor seatings with great views over the city. No fancy food here but more sandwiches, burgers style. I used the drink voucher there. Reservation highly recommended as this place seems also famous for locals.
Pool & Gym
On the 38th floor, you have also the gym and a nice indoor pool. A perfect place to relax after a working day or a day exploring the city.
Overall
Overall a great stay and highly recommended Sofitel and thank you to the excellent staff who made my stay a very enjoyable one.
