Stats

I had a quick 15ish hour layover in SFO and was bored with the airport Marriott, so decided to go into town this time and stay at the Taj Campton Place.

Room

Check-in was quick and efficient, the agent outlined the Virtuoso benefits and let me know they had upgraded me.  Benefits are the standard $100 F&B credit along with breakfast and an upgrade.

The room itself was small, not even 400 sqft.  Immediately to the left upon entering was the bathroom with a sliding door.  A quick word about these, I cannot stand sliding doors to the bathroom, especially when they do not lock.  Even traveling alone, it bothered me.

The room featured a king bed, desk and a little sitting area under the window.  There was also a minibar in the corner of the room.

There was some noise coming from adjacent rooms, I could hear some TV noise along with doors and hallway movement.  It was not enough to wake me up, but somewhat annoying to hear the TV in the morning or late at night.

The bathroom was pretty large and featured closets within it along with a tub and shower combo.  The bathroom was designed somewhat oddly, the bathtub combo was set very high up and had steps to get to it, also the glass separating the shower from the toilet was not long enough so I flooded a lot of the bathroom.

Dining

I had dinner at the lobby lounge area and was thoroughly impressed with both the service and the food.  I ordered off the spice route menu and it was quite nice (I think they share a kitchen with the 2 Michelin star Campton Place restaurant).

Prices were pretty reasonable at dinner, I was at almost exactly $50 after a drink, salad, and entree.  Dinner for 2 should not be a problem without breaking the bank after the $100 credit.

Breakfast was held in the Campton Place restaurant and featured many different items, the Virtuoso credit is $50, and it's a little tough to use that for two people.  Many of the set breakfasts were between $20 and $30.

Location

The hotel is located near Union Square which had a plethora of high-end shopping if that's your thing.  It was semi-convenient to BART, it took about 10 minutes to walk there.  I don't know much else about the area, but it seemed nice.

Overall

I thought it was a perfectly nice hotel.  For the price, I thought it was fantastic.  I would come back, but I would stay away from the rooms and book directly into a suite.  The rooms are just too small, with the entry-level being under 300 sqft.  I think the standout here is the restaurant, the food was just great and I would hapily come back for that alone.
