Can anyone share if this hotel's location is excessively far from the US Army base in the west? Local transport an option?

Thanks. MrShoes

I had a one-night stay here. Booked standard room, pre-arrival upgrade to a superior room which is a bit larger.
The entire hotel still looks modern and fresh and so did our room. Everything seemed in working order.
At check-in with my partner I received a welcome-drink voucher for 1 person. On request, no additional voucher available.
Staff were very pleasant. Housekeeping was absolutely friendly and did a very good job. Breakfast was above average in terms of service (attentive) and buffet (good quality items).
The only downside thing is the hotel location: there is a bus going to either Bad Cannstatt (railway station and a one stop S-Bahn ride to downtown Stuttgart) or to Schlachthof which is connected to a tram stop (U-Bahn, since it runs underground in the inner city center). But both ways it is a bit out of the way.

Yes, it is a LONG way. More than an hour by car during rush hour. HGI is not well connected to public transport. Not sure about public transport. I guess you could walk to train station "Bad Cannstatt" (20min walk) and take a train from there but my guess would be over an hour for that trip as well. I know a lot of Army personal stay at the SI Suites in Möhringen. That is much closer.

A good way to get arround in Stuttgart is by Car2Go, which is Mercedes's car sharing service. Usually there will be cars in front of the Hilton because a lot of Daimler personal drive to work with a Smart and the factory is just down the street. You can sign up for Car2Go online, have your license confirmed at the central train station and you are good to go.

There is bus no. 59 going to either Bad Canstatt (where there is a very good railway (S-Bahn) connection with Hauptbahnhof and City Center. The other way you can take bus no. 59 and change at "Schlachthof" for Tram. However, in the evening this bus goes every 30' minutes only. It is not that bad. But far from perfect, I admit.

Just stayed here on points and cash. Recognized as Diamond, got free drink voucher plus a further voucher for some Gluehwein with bread, as they have some special Christmas stall in the lobby.

I stayed in some main Hiltons in other big German cities as part of the same trip and my wife felt that the HGI room was the best!

This was my first stay at an HGI and beforehand I didn't realize that the stated benefits are free breakfast OR 750 extra points. I asked the front desk and they seemed to imply that breakfast was free for everyone, but didn't really answer the question about whether I would get the 750 points as well. However, my HHonors balance also increased by 1000 points more than expected for some reason.

Rather than going to Bad Canstatt and searching for a bus stop, you can take the S1 one stop further to Neckarpark and walk 15 minutes. The hotel is very easy to find if you know where you are going and you aren't in a moving vehicle with limited visibility.

Good for family stay

It is one of the very few Hilton properties in EU that allows booking a suite for family of 5. Junior suite, more than 60sqm, private sauna, extra large walk-in closet, fridge, microwave. It is about 130 EUR per night during Hilton sales. Excellent. Kids also liked it very much. We went to zoo (Wilhelma) and back on foot. It's a nice 30 minute walk. It was very unusual for Christmas - sunny +16C. Breakfast is very good. Absolutely great croissants, weisswursts, pretzels, etc. Diamond booked highest category junior suite doesn't get much extra - two drink vouchers and choice between breakfast and 750 points. I'm sure 5 breakfasts each day are much more valuable than 750 points per stay. I wouldn't hesitate to come back if business or leisure brings me back to Stuttgart.

I stayed there recently. Globally I had a pleasant stay despite one problem which was solved by the staff. The staff is one of the strong point of the hotel, they are all nice and eager to serve.

Check In

Check-in was normal, I was welcomed as a Diamond and given my key, as well as informed about the hotel amenities.

I originally booked a King Bed Deluxe Room and had a three level upgrade to the King Bed Suite, the biggest room they have.

Room

PXL_20230825_154211259.jpgPXL_20230825_154201786.jpgPXL_20230825_154148777.jpgPXL_20230825_154104376.jpgPXL_20230825_154044896.jpg

The room is quite large (around 60 sqm), features several seats, a sofa, a small desk, a rotating TV (so you can see from either the sofa or the bed), a large bathroom with shower and a private sauna. Lots of natural light, specially as this one was a corner room. The bed is comfortable, although the pillow are still the HGI standard which I found too thin and without enough neck and head support.

The shower had good temperature control and strong pressure, borderline too strong actually. Too bad the towel rack could not be turned on. Standard amenities provided, plus slippers and bathrobe. They do not provide anymore glasses for the bathroom, you need to ask them at reception (this would be platic glasses).

The sauna works well and it was nice having one. Good temperature and humidity control.

All Suites are located in a different wing of the hotel, past the restaurant, so quite isolated from the rest of the hotel and thus very quiet.

Unfortunately the AC was not working in the room, and in the first evening I had to get a staff member to come to open a window (window can not be opened without a key and signing a disclosure you are planning to kill yourself). He acknowledged the temperature was significantly hot and looked for an alternative room for me pro-actively. I was moved the second night in a Queen Suite, as all Suite were busy the first night. I could have asked to be put in a standard room but preferred not to.

Service

Service was good. Staff at the reception were all nice, all apologetic regarding the non working AC and the change of room. At checkout she proactively reduced the rate to compensate for the issue.

Breakfast staff was quick and efficient bringing eggs to order, and cleaning tables.

Location

Location is special. It is out of the city center and needs a change to get there from the main train station. There is not much around for public transport, even less now as one bus line (56) is not circulating on its normal route due to construction works.

If there are events at the Porsche Arena or the Mercedes Arena, this normally quiet hotel would become very very busy.

Gym

The gym has a multi purpose machine and basic cardio equipment. It also has some dumbbells and kettlebells. Interestingly it features a finnish sauna and a steam sauna.
